Upon successful completion of each certificate program, a student qualifies for a diploma (certificate) from Middle Georgia College.
The courses in the Surveying Certificate and Hydrology and Hydraulics Certificate programs help to meet the educational requirements for the Land Surveyor in Training and the Land Surveyor examinations in Georgia .
All courses (except for the weekend laboratory courses) are to be offered on-line, using WebCT and personal computers. With on-line courses, students can access the course material from anywhere, at any time.
The cost per three hour course (Spring 2006) is $288 per student for all on-line students. There is no longer a cost differential for out-of-state students.
Each course consists of on-line instruction and quizzes, turn-in homework, and a mandatory Final Examination on a Saturday in Cochran. This Saturday in Cochran will probably be the only time that a student will have to attend a formal classroom meeting. All the rest of the work will be at a time convenient to the student. The on-line quizzes will be timed: they will be available for a period of several days, but may only be taken once.
Each course will require about ten hours of study per week, for a 15-week semester, or 25 hours per week for a Summer semester (8 weeks long).
We can make Final Exam arrangements with out-of-state students, so that they probably will not have to come to Cochran for their final.
